Exodus 15:20 says, “And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances.” Prophetess? When the Israelites were fearing shouldn’t she have known what would happen? It is easy to make a prophesy after the fact like Miriam did. Although it is nice that they finally made a woman empowered.

Prophetess?

Actually, Miriam prophesized Moses' birth. It was Miriam who told her father Amram, that his divorcing his wife to stop the birth of all Hebrew babies was a worse decree than Pharoah
ReplyDelete's decree to kill of first born males.
She said, that if he takes his wife back, their next child will be the son who will save his people.
He listened to his young daughter - took his wife back, following her decree, and Moses was born.
Miriam watched over him - arranged for his adoption into the Egyptain palace, with his own mother to be his wetnurse.
Who was this woman? I'd say pretty powerful!
