God didn’t think this through

Exodus 17:14 says, “And the LORD said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.”  If Moses writes this in a book and we are reading it now I don’t think god put Amalek out of remembrance?  Especially if you read Exodus 17:16 “For he said, Because the LORD hath sworn that the LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.”  How do you have war with Amalek from generation to generation without remembering it.  You would have to wipe them out.
