Why is god terrible?

Deuteronomy 7:21 says, “Thou shalt not be affrighted at them: for the LORD thy God is among you, a mighty God and terrible.” Why would someone follow a god who proclaims himself terrible?

Israelites should fear no one.

Deuteronomy 7:16 says, “And thou shalt consume all the people which the LORD thy God shall deliver thee; thine eye shall have no pity upon them: neither shalt thou serve their gods; for that will be a snare unto thee.” If god is so powerful why does Israel need so many weapons? What could they possibly fear if they believe their god is real? Deuteronomy 7:18 “Thou shalt not be afraid of them: but shalt well remember what the LORD thy God did unto Pharaoh, and unto all Egypt;”

So, Israelites don’t get sick...

Deuteronomy 7:15 says, “And the LORD will take away from thee all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee; but will lay them upon all them that hate the” So the Israelites should not get sick at all? I wonder if they even bother to get flu shots? This seems to not be so true? Paul Newman, who was a Jew died of cancer. So did the famous Rabbi Noah Weinberg.

God plays favorites!

Deuteronomy 7:6 says, “For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.”  God created everything so why would he select some things to be his favorites?  Why would he not like some of the things he created so badly he would curse them? Genesis 3:14 “And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life”  If god knows everything even the things that haven’t happened yet we should all become Jews, right?  They are his chosen.  He tells us that right here.  We would be fools to be any other religion.  Even Christian.  Their own book says so.  That is, if god knows all.

God forgets once again

Deuteronomy 7:4 says, “For they will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly.”  But didn’t he say in in Deuteronomy 4:27, “And the LORD shall scatter you among the nations, and ye shall be left few in number among the heathen, whither the LORD shall lead you.

4:28 And there ye shall serve gods, the work of men's hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell 4:29 But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.”  How will you be able to seek god if you destroy their stuff?  Deuteronomy 7:5 “But thus shall ye deal with them; ye shall destroy their altars, and break down their images, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven images with fire.”  These are mixed messages.  What should we do?  Serve the other gods or break their stuff?

God wants the Israelites to kill his creations (God forgets again)

Deuteronomy 7:1 says, “When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou;

7:2 And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor show mercy unto them:”  This is the loving merciful god of the bible.  Why would he not save the people he is going to deliver to the Hebrews to kill?  Why would he want anything to be killed?  Didn’t he say in Exodus “20:13 Thou shalt not kill,” or in Deuteronomy 5:17 “Thou shalt not kill.”  What should we believe?
