More things god doesn’t know

Leviticus 13:47 says, “The garment also that the plague of leprosy is in, whether it be a woolen garment, or a linen garment;

13:48 Whether it be in the warp, or woof; of linen, or of woolen; whether in a skin, or in any thing made of skin;

13:49 And if the plague be greenish or reddish in the garment, or in the skin, either in the warp, or in the woof, or in any thing of skin; it is a plague of leprosy, and shall be showed unto the priest:”  God should know that washing the clothes would make them clean but I would just throw them away.  The plague would most certainly not grow on the clothes.

God doesn’t know again hmmmm

Leviticus 13:26 says, “But if the priest look on it, and, behold, there be no white hair in the bright spot, and it be no lower than the other skin, but be somewhat dark; then the priest shall shut him up seven days:

13:27 And the priest shall look upon him the seventh day: and if it be spread much abroad in the skin, then the priest shall pronounce him unclean: it is the plague of leprosy.”  The priests are always shutting up the people suspected of the plague for seven days.  God should know that the "leprosy incubation period” is usually 5-7 years.  You’d think god would have known that since he gave them the plague.

More animals pay the price

Leviticus 14:49 says, “And he shall take to cleanse the house two birds, and cedar wood, and scarlet, and hyssop:

14:50 And he shall kill the one of the birds in an earthen vessel over running water”  Now birds have to die for god so a house can be clean of Leprosy?  I really thought he was supposed to be a loving god.

God doesn’t know yet again

We know that leprosy is spread person to person through infected respiratory droplets.  So why does god have his people doing these crazy things to prevent the disease? Leviticus 14:37 says, “ And he shall look on the plague, and, behold, if the plague be in the walls of the house with hollow streaks, greenish or reddish, which in sight are lower than the wall;

14:38 Then the priest shall go out of the house to the door of the house, and shut up the house seven days:

14:39 And the priest shall come again the seventh day, and shall look: and, behold, if the plague be spread in the walls of the house;”  Did god seriously think Leprosy would grow on the walls?

14:40 "Then the priest shall command that they take away the stones in which the plague is, and they shall cast them into an unclean place without the city:

14:41 And he shall cause the house to be scraped within round about, and they shall pour out the dust that they scrape off without the city into an unclean place:

14:42 And they shall take other stones, and put them in the place of those stones; and he shall take other mortar, and shall plaster the house.

14:43 And if the plague come again, and break out in the house, after that he hath taken away the stones, and after he hath scraped the house, and after it is plastered;

14:44 Then the priest shall come and look, and, behold, if the plague be spread in the house, it is a fretting leprosy in the house; it is unclean.

14:45 And he shall break down the house, the stones of it, and the timber thereof, and all the mortar of the house; and he shall carry them forth out of the city into an unclean place.”  Sounds like a lot of work that these people didn’t really have to do to prevent the spread of the disease.

Poor get half off

Leviticus 14:21 says, “And if he be poor, and cannot get so much; then he shall take one lamb for a trespass offering to be waved, to make an atonement for him, and one tenth deal of fine flour mingled with oil for a meat offering, and a log of oil;” Isn’t it nice of god to let the poor off for half the price.  Leviticus 14:10 “And on the eighth day he shall take two he lambs without blemish, and one ewe lamb of the first year without blemish, and three tenth deals of fine flour for a meat offering, mingled with oil, and one log of oil.”  But god gets more death from the cheaper payoff.  Leviticus 14:22 “And two turtledoves, or two young pigeons, such as he is able to get; and the one shall be a sin offering, and the other a burnt offering.”  It seems to be a deal for all parties involved.  God gets three deaths and the poor man only loses one sheep and two found birds.  But who is paying the actual price.  Seems to me it is the animals who have to die for the guy who god gave leprosy.

Tell me the killing for the leper is over?

Leviticus 14:10 says, “And on the eighth day he shall take two he lambs without blemish, and one ewe lamb of the first year without blemish, and three tenth deals of fine flour for a meat offering, mingled with oil, and one log of oil.

14:11 And the priest that maketh him clean shall present the man that is to be made clean, and those things, before the LORD, at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation:”  I can’t believe it.  They are going to kill again.  Isn’t one innocent bird enough for this bloody god?

More innocent animals killed for what?

Leviticus 14:3 says, “And the priest shall go forth out of the camp; and the priest shall look, and, behold, if the plague of leprosy be healed in the leper;

14:4 Then shall the priest command to take for him that is to be cleansed two birds alive and clean, and cedar wood, and scarlet, and hyssop:

14:5 And the priest shall command that one of the birds be killed in an earthen vessel over running water:”  I knew god would want something killed if the leper lived.  Leviticus 14:6 “As for the living bird, he shall take it, and the cedar wood, and the scarlet, and the hyssop, and shall dip them and the living bird in the blood of the bird that was killed over the running water:

14:7 And he shall sprinkle upon him that is to be cleansed from the leprosy seven times, and shall pronounce him clean, and shall let the living bird loose into the open field.”  Why all this after the plague is healed?  Why is there need for the constant sprinkling of blood?  What could this possibly do?

God shows Moses how to identify baldness

Leviticus 13:40 says, “And the man whose hair is fallen off his head, he is bald; yet is he clean.

13:41 And he that hath his hair fallen off from the part of his head toward his face, he is forehead bald: yet is he clean.”  I sure am glad god cleared up what baldness is.  This whole chapter (Leviticus 13) is all about how to identify Leprosy. What is the use of having your god living in his blood filled tabernacle, if he can’t just not give you leprosy in the first place?  For those of you who don’t think he gives people disease Leviticus 14:34 says, “When ye be come into the land of Canaan, which I give to you for a possession, and I put the plague of leprosy in a house of the land of your possession;”  Or maybe he could just heal you after you kill the appropriate animal for him?

Is god sexist?

If a woman has a boy she is just unclean for a determined amount of time.  Leviticus 12:2 says, “Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a woman have conceived seed, and born a man child: then she shall be unclean seven days; according to the days of the separation for her infirmity shall she be unclean. 12:4 And she shall then continue in the blood of her purifying three and thirty days; she shall touch no hallowed thing, nor come into the sanctuary, until the days of her purifying be fulfilled.”  But if a woman has a girl Leviticus 12:5 says, “But if she bear a maid child, then she shall be unclean two weeks, as in her separation: and she shall continue in the blood of her purifying threescore and six days.

12:6 And when the days of her purifying are fulfilled, for a son, or for a daughter, she shall bring a lamb of the first year for a burnt offering, and a young pigeon, or a turtledove, for a sin offering, unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, unto the priest:

12:7 Who shall offer it before the LORD, and make an atonement for her; and she shall be cleansed from the issue of her blood. This is the law for her that hath born a male or a female.

12:8 And if she be not able to bring a lamb, then she shall bring two turtles, or two young pigeons; the one for the burnt offering, and the other for a sin offering: and the priest shall make an atonement for her, and she shall be clean.”  Why does a woman have to atone for having a girl and not a boy?  Why is she unclean longer for birthing a female?  Is this because Eve picked the forbidden fruit?  You would think god doesn’t like women the way he likes man?

Isn’t this backwards?

Leviticus 11:32 says, “And upon whatsoever any of them, when they are dead, doth fall, it shall be unclean; whether it be any vessel of wood, or raiment, or skin, or sack, whatsoever vessel it be, wherein any work is done, it must be put into water, and it shall be unclean until the even; so it shall be cleansed.

11:33 And every earthen vessel, whereinto any of them falleth, whatsoever is in it shall be unclean; and ye shall break it.”  Shouldn’t this be the other way around.  Earthenware vessels when washed should be very easy to clean because even in those times they had glazes.  Wood and fabrics would trap germs and without proper soaps could harbor potentially dangerous bacteria.

Don’t pet your pets or you will be unclean

Leviticus 11:27 says, “And whatsoever goeth upon his paws, among all manner of beasts that go on all four, those are unclean unto you: whoso toucheth their carcass shall be unclean until the even.”  Does this mean I have to get rid of my dog?

Hare’s chew cud?

Leviticus 11:6 says, “And the hare, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you.”  I think god should tell Moses that Hares don’t chew cud.  He should also enlighten his earthly rule setter that Birds don’t walk on four feet. 11:20 says, “All fowls that creep, going upon all four, shall be an abomination unto you.”

Moses is trying to kill Aaron and his remaining sons

Leviticus 10:7 says, “And ye shall not go out from the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die: for the anointing oil of the LORD is upon you. And they did according to the word of Moses.”  Shouldn’t he have told them this rule before he told them to go out of the camp a few moments ago? Leviticus  10:4 “And Moses called Mishael and Elzaphan, the sons of Uzziel the uncle of Aaron, and said unto them, Come near, carry your brethren from before the sanctuary out of the camp.

10:5 So they went near, and carried them in their coats out of the camp; as Moses had said.”

No Mourning for Aaron

Leviticus 10:6 says, “And Moses said unto Aaron, and unto Eleazar and unto Ithamar, his sons, Uncover not your heads, neither rend your clothes; lest ye die, and lest wrath come upon all the people: but let your brethren, the whole house of Israel, bewail the burning which the LORD hath kindled.”  So if Aaron or his remaining sons mourn the deaths of Nadab and Abihu they will be killed also?  Why?

Killed for lighting the incense wrong?

Leviticus 10:1 says, “And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not.

10:2 And there went out fire from the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD”  God killed the sons of Aaron for lighting the incense wrong.  He did it in front of the whole congregation.  Who is this god?  Where is the love?

Tabernacle of horrors

From Leviticus 1:1 to 7:38 God just tells Moses how to kill things in order to satisfy some silly rules.  As I look at it, god’s tabernacle would have been a place of terrible horrors.  Just try to picture the scene.  Thousands of Hebrews each following god’s rules are bringing animals for slaughter and burning at the house of god.  The stench of burnt flesh, blood.  The sounds of animals dying one after another.  It would have been a river of blood.  A place of death.  Day after day thousands of animals destroyed to fulfill the rules man has broken.  Hundreds would die each day.  What good god would subject his creations to such a life.

If you really want to ruin your next meal read these chapters.  Always read the book to verify what I am writing for yourself.  I want you to understand that this is what the bible says.

Christians try to cover for their gods bad behavior by saying he had to have us do these things to atone for sins or some such nonsense.  Remember, god makes the rules.  He is the one saying if you are bad you must wrench a birds neck.  He could easily have either made us better, or make punishments fitting the crime.  Eating fat from an oxen could have been punished by the sinner getting sick so he doesn’t want to do it again.  Not by cutting him off from his people.  Doesn’t that sound better?  Slaughtering cattle because one violates a law does nothing to the lawbreaker.

I have to ask again: Children are encouraged to read this book?  But they discourage the reading of Harry Potter?

Swearing

Leviticus 5:4 says, “Or if a soul swear, pronouncing with his lips to do evil, or to do good, whatsoever it be that a man shall pronounce with an oath, and it be hid from him; when he knoweth of it, then he shall be guilty in one of these.”  So I guess we should NOT swear on the bible?  For any reason.  I sure hope I don’t need to go to court.

Rested?

I just had an odd thought.  Why did god rest on the seventh day?  Isn't he all powerful?  Should he get tired?

Meat offering? Flour?

Leviticus 2:1 says, “And when any will offer a meat offering unto the LORD, his offering shall be of fine flour; and he shall pour oil upon it, and put frankincense thereon:

2:2 And he shall bring it to Aaron's sons the priests: and he shall take thereout his handful of the flour thereof, and of the oil thereof, with all the frankincense thereof; and the priest shall burn the memorial of it upon the altar, to be an offering made by fire, of a sweet savor unto the LORD:”  I think the term from the 1980’s was, “Where’s the beef?”  Shouldn’t a meat offering consist in some part of meat?

More horrible atonement offerings for this god

Leviticus 1:14 says, “And if the burnt sacrifice for his offering to the LORD be of fowls, then he shall bring his offering of turtledoves, or of young pigeons.

1:15 And the priest shall bring it unto the altar, and wring off his head, and burn it on the altar; and the blood thereof shall be wrung out at the side of the altar:

1:16 And he shall pluck away his crop with his feathers, and cast it beside the altar on the east part, by the place of the ashes:

1:17 And he shall cleave it with the wings thereof, but shall not divide it asunder: and the priest shall burn it upon the altar, upon the wood that is upon the fire: it is a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savor unto the LORD.”  How does he enjoy such horrors.  If I were to bring a Christian into my home and perform these brutal deeds I surely hope my religious guest would be appalled.  Shouldn’t a god be held to higher standards?

What kind of god is the Christian god?

Leviticus 1:4 says, "And he shall put his hand upon the head of the burnt offering; and it shall be accepted for him to make atonement for him. 5 And he shall kill the bullock before the LORD: and the priests, Aaron's sons, shall bring the blood, and sprinkle the blood round about upon the altar that is by the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. 6 And he shall flay the burnt offering, and cut it into his pieces. 7 And the sons of Aaron the priest shall put fire upon the altar, and lay the wood in order upon the fire: 8 And the priests, Aaron's sons, shall lay the parts, the head, and the fat, in order upon the wood that is on the fire which is upon the altar: 9 But his inwards and his legs shall he wash in water: and the priest shall burn all on the altar, to be a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savor unto the LORD." Does this sound like the actions of a good god? Slaughtering animals for no other reason than pleasure. It wasn't like he was going to use the meat. He just wanted it burned. Wasted. Why was it necessary to sprinkle the blood. Wash the legs. For what purpose?

The last word on the book of Exodus.

This book is full of double standards.  Moses murders and that is Ok because god murders shortly there after.  God then has Aaron do miracles, that every Sunday school lesson attributes to Moses, while systematically torturing the Egyptians whom he later kills anyways so the lessons he taught them, while he was inflicting them with plaques and the like, are meaningless because they die in the red sea.

Meanwhile God neglects the Hebrews while they wander the desert making them beg for food and water.  He then issues judgments, which modern people take as the Ten Commandments.  He even writes the Ten Commandments down and still modern people get it wrong.  He even calls them the Ten Commandments and we don’t know what they are (you can read about them here in an earlier post.)  During this time the Hebrews and Moses break many of gods judgments.  God even directs them to violate his rules.  Then the chosen people are directed to create a tabernacle for god to live in.  A bloody place of burnt offerings.

I am still in search of the gentle god who loves us in this book but have only seen a jealous god among many other gods who loves spilled blood and burnt offerings.  Excuse me if I will not bow to this bloodthirsty maniac.

They still traveled?

Exodus 40:36 says, “And when the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the children of Israel went onward in all their journeys:

40:37 But if the cloud were not taken up, then they journeyed not till the day that it was taken up.”  Can you imagine the huge trouble of taking gods house apart to move it when the Israelites traveled?  Couldn’t god just have appeared as a pillar like he did when they first left Egypt? Exodus 13:21 “And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night:”  It would have been easier for his people.  All the tabernacle was is a portable slaughterhouse for his burnt offerings.  They could have killed, sprinkled blood, and burnt flesh out in the open like the good old days.  Why go through the trouble?

Preists are all from Aaron’s family?

Exodus 40:13 says, “And thou shalt put upon Aaron the holy garments, and anoint him, and sanctify him; that he may minister unto me in the priest's office.

40:14 And thou shalt bring his sons, and clothe them with coats:

40:15 And thou shalt anoint them, as thou didst anoint their father, that they may minister unto me in the priest's office: for their anointing shall surely be an everlasting priesthood throughout their generations.”  Is your local preist a son of the line of Aaron?  If you don’t think so then he must be a fraud.  Cast him out.  I don’t know how you could tell if he was or wasn’t though.  Do they carry a card of something?

I thought they only borrowed the money from Egypt?

Exodus 38:21 says, “This is the sum of the tabernacle, even of the tabernacle of testimony, as it was counted, according to the commandment of Moses, for the service of the Levites, by the hand of Ithamar, son to Aaron the priest.

38:22 And Bezaleel the son Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, made all that the LORD commanded Moses.

38:23 And with him was Aholiab, son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, an engraver, and a cunning workman, and an embroiderer in blue, and in purple, and in scarlet, and fine linen.38:24 All the gold that was occupied for the work in all the work of the holy place, even the gold of the offering, was twenty and nine talents, and seven hundred and thirty shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary.

38:25 And the silver of them that were numbered of the congregation was an hundred talents, and a thousand seven hundred and threescore and fifteen shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary:

38:26 A bekah for every man, that is, half a shekel, after the shekel of the sanctuary, for every one that went to be numbered, from twenty years old and upward, for six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty men.

38:27 And of the hundred talents of silver were cast the sockets of the sanctuary, and the sockets of the vail; an hundred sockets of the hundred talents, a talent for a socket.

38:28 And of the thousand seven hundred seventy and five shekels he made hooks for the pillars, and overlaid their chapiters, and filleted them.

38:29 And the brass of the offering was seventy talents, and two thousand and four hundred shekels.”  That is a lot wealth for people who were slaves of Egypt.  Let alone to be wandering about in the wilderness with all of this linen, brass, and other materials to build god his house on earth.  But earlier I thought the Hebrews only borrowed from the Egyptians? Exodus 12:35 “And the children of Israel did according to the word of Moses; and they borrowed of the Egyptians jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment:

12:36 And the LORD gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they lent unto them such things as they required. And they spoiled the Egyptians.”  Now in my house, if you take something and don’t plan on returning it, we call that stealing.  And I don’t think they plan on going back to Egypt and returning these items that compose gods home and the arc of the covenant.  Isn’t theft another of god’s judgements which we see being broken here.

Lookingglasses?

Exodus 38:8 says, “And he made the laver of brass, and the foot of it of brass, of the lookingglasses of the women assembling, which assembled at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.”  Lookingglasses?  Weren’t the women allowed inside the tabernacle?  Why, once again, would a woman want to believe in this female hating religion? For those of you who are wondering what a laver is Exodus 40:30 “And he set the laver between the tent of the congregation and the altar, and put water there, to wash withal.”  I guess women had to view the stuff going on past the laver through lookingglasses, whatever they were.

Badger skin?

Exodus 35:7 says, “And rams' skins dyed red, and badgers' skins, and shittim wood,”  I thought they were in the wilderness?  Their was no food and they were living on mana.  Where did the badgers come from?

Where does all the jewelry keep coming from?

Exodus 35:22 says “And they came, both men and women, as many as were willing hearted, and brought bracelets, and earrings, and rings, and tablets, all jewels of gold: and every man that offered, offered an offering of gold unto the LORD.”  Where do the Hebrews keep getting all of this jewelry from?  Didn’t they already give it to Aaron to make the golden calf god?  Exodus 32:1 “And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.

32:2 And Aaron said unto them, Break off the golden earrings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them unto me.

32:3 And all the people brake off the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them unto Aaron.

32:4 And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.”  After they cast the calf Moses destroyed the gold?  Exodus 32:20 “And he took the calf which they had made, and burnt it in the fire, and ground it to powder, and strewed it upon the water, and made the children of Israel drink of it.”  Eww.  You don’t think they saved it from their?  Eww.

Shinny skin

Exodus 34:29 says, “And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses' hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him.

34:30 And when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come nigh him.”  I don’t believe this.  If his skin shone when he saw god then why didn’t it happen to others?  Exodus 24:9 “Then went up Moses, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel:

24:10 And they saw the God of Israel: and there was under his feet as it were a paved work of a sapphire stone, and as it were the body of heaven in his clearness.

24:11 And upon the nobles of the children of Israel he laid not his hand: also they saw God, and did eat and drink.”  So there should have been 74 people with shiny skin.  And that should have made people really scared.  Now this isn’t the first time someone saw god so why is it that they didn’t ever before take precautions about seeing his face?  Exodus 33:19 says, “And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy.

33:20 And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.

33:21 And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock:

33:22 And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a cleft of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by:

33:23 And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.”  So why did the 74 men not have to worry about seeing gods face earlier but now it will kill?
