Deuteronomy 18:15 says, “ The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;” But a few verses before the bible says, “18:10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch. 18:11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. 18:12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee” Is there a difference between a prophet and these other people?

No observable difference I presume, but supposedly the prophet's power comes from the god, while others use other means. BTW, what the bleeding miaow does "observer of times" mean? Aren't we all observing time (or history as the plural of it)?
